Steroids, HGH and Hair Loss

In the past few years we’ve seen the news coverage spotlight of professional athletes and their use of steroids and human growth hormone(HGH).  While we now all know the damage that these chemicals can cause to the body (liver damage, high blood pressure, extreme aggression), many individuals simply don’t know the major increase of hair loss that can occur.

Why and How

by using steroids or HGH consistently your body increases its natural testosterone levels and therefore increasing the muscle mass.  Androgenetic Alopecia, male/female pattern hair loss is predetermined genetically and is directly tied to hormone levels. When hair follicles become damaged and clogged through the DHT (dihydrotestosterone) process, the resulting factor is the thinning and shedding of hairs.  Simply put, when testosterone levels are elevated so is the hair loss.

What to do if you’re in this situation

If you are currently using steroids or HGH or have used them in the past and have noticed hair thinning or excessive shedding the best option would be to talk to a hair growth specialist.  Once a scalp analysis has been performed a strict regime will follow to stop the hair loss and concentrate on thickening up the damaged hairs.

Hair Shedding Tips for the Fall

Now that fall is here, below are a few tips on how to maintain a healthy scalp to prevent excessive shedding from occurring…

Healthy Lifestyle for Hair Loss Control
Diet
A strong diet will help you maintain the “inner ecology” your body needs to function properly and to eliminate hair loss and promote hair growth. To avoid any kind of nutritional deficiency, you should include a variety of vegetables in your diet so that you get your daily dose of essential hair vitamins and minerals.

Exercise
A regular workout regime also helps you control hair fall if the cause is associated with poor blood circulation. Exercising stimulates blood circulation that helps in strengthening hair roots resulting in less hair loss. Exercising also secretes some hormones that help you relieve stress that in turn helps in less hair shedding.

Apart from this, avoid late night parties and try to stay away from alcohol. It would reduce the amount of toxins in the body and give adequate rest to the body including your hair and scalp.

Products for Hair Loss Control
If the root cause of excessive hair loss is some diseases such as thyroid imbalance or psoriasis, you should consult a hair growth specialist or doctor and follow the recommended hair loss treatment. Even in case of hereditary and biological factors, there are topical formulas and herbal hair growth supplements that can come to your rescue.

Hair Fall Treatment Tips
Given below are some of the habits that you must inculcate in your everyday routine that helps you control the hair fall and acts as an effective hair fall treatment for women.

  • Do not tie your hair very tightly as it causes hair pull that results in hair breakage.
  • Do not wash your hair with extremely hot water as it weakens the hair bonds resulting in hair loss. Use warm or cold water to wash hair.
  • Do not comb hair vigorously as it can damage follicles. Use a comb with soft bristles.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals on hair. Go for mild, soft, and natural hair products.
  • Avoid overuse of hair straighteners, perming lotions, irons, curlers, etc. Also avoid using metal and sharp hair accessories, instead go for wooden accessories.
  • Maintain hygiene when it comes to hair. Keep your combs, brushes, and accessories clean and avoid sharing them with anybody to prevent infections.

With these few handy tips on hair fall treatment, I am sure you will be benefited and will get back that bounce of dark, thick hair.

Pantene hair loss complaints escalate

There has been a buzz for years in regard to the Procter and Gamble product Pantene Pro-V causing hair loss.  Recently, A devastated 19 year old administrative assistant says that her hair literally broke off at the roots after using Pantene Pro-V shampoo.

According to Sophie Peppercorn of Perbourough, England, her hair fell out in clumps after only one application of the celebrity endorsed product, and has received very little support from Procter and Gamble, the makers of Pantene. Miss Peppercorn wept as she described to reporters what happened. “As I showered the bubbles from my hair I could feel a lot of it in my hands,” she said.

Secrets to Getting an Amazing Haircut

When dealing with hair loss it is important to set realistic expectations about the way your stylist/barber is cutting your hair. A great haircut can not only give a great shape to your facial features but it can also lessen the look of your hair loss.

for example, Klaus Meine lead singer of the rock band Scorpions thinning top and afro type sides during the 80’s made his hair loss extremely noticeable.

In comparison, Judd Law has always kept a shorter and softer look creating more definition and attention to his face rather than his hair.

Ariana Finlayson, from Real Beauty recently wrote an article on some tips for both men and women on how to maximize the most out of your haircut.  To the read the article in its entirety go here.

Thanksgiving – A special time, a special story

Thanksgiving is a time to be with family and friends and to cherish every moment of it.  This holiday, with all the smells from the kitchen and family coming to visit, embed some incredible memories.

Recently, I was reading about a spiritual warrior named Huston Smith. This man has trained with Zen masters in Japan, camped with aborigines in Australia and dropped peyote with Native American shamans. He didn’t just study religions; he lived them.  He was also responsible for introducing the Dali Lama to the west. But this story is not about his great spiritual achievements but rather about the toughest battle of his life, losing his youngest child to cancer.

We wanted to share this story with you because of the power and the spiritual strength that his daughter possessed in dealing with death.

The following is an excerpt from the story:

“Nobody wants to learn from a child how to die well, but I learned it from Karen,” he said.

Smith traveled around the world to study under some of the most famous spiritual masters. But it was his daughter who became one of his greatest teachers.

“She taught me nobility of spirit,” he said.

He said Karen’s courage continues to “console” and “guide” him as he draws closer to his furthest shore.

He can still hear Karen’s final words as she slipped away in her bed.

“I hear the ocean,” she said. “I can smell the ocean now.”

UK Hair Transplant Surgeon Takes Stand – “You’re Too Young For a Hair Transplant”

Dr. Farjo, currently the UK’s leading hair transplant surgeon, is calling for appropriate age restrictions after seeing a disturbing trend of teenage boys wanting to undergo hair transplantation.

Dr. Farjo’s clinic receives calls from the parents of boys as young as 16 years old who desperately want to help their child restore their receding hairlines, but Dr. Farjo thinks it’s the responsibility of the professionals to better educate these families and to “just say no.”

Dr Farjo explained:”Hair loss can be quite unpredictable in its early stages, with the full extent of loss difficult to determine in men under the age of 30. Men under this age should consider taking preventative drugs such as propecia, in an effort to slow down or stop their hair loss. However, a few online sources and commercial clinics are encouraging very young men to consider surgery to restore both their follicles and self-esteem.”

He added, “Surgery may improve the hairline of very young men in the short term; however, if further hair loss occurs they could find themselves with inconsistent coverage, giving them a ‘patchy’ look.”

In recent years Evolution Hair Centers have seen an increasing number of men in their early 20’s that have had transplants in their late teens prior to starting laser treatments.  This is a growing concern and a trend among young men that are receiving bad advice from so called experts.  Most of those individuals not only had the surgery but spent thousands of dollars on treatments that could’ve been avoided.
